The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
“The circus arrives without warning.”
Magic. This story is magic. It was a slow, beautiful burn. I enjoyed all of it, and when I got to Part IV, I looked at my husband and said, “I don’t want this book to end.” My rating may be more of a 4.5 rather than a 5 because it is not life-changing, but I woke up in the morning thinking about the circus. I was totally immersed in it. I counted down the hours until I could take my lunch break, hop on the treadmill, and power through another 100 pages.
My husband and I were watching Jeopardy last night, and one of the answers was “Magical Realism.” I didn’t even know that was a genre, but here I am a day later realizing that this wonderful novel falls into that category. To think this has been sitting on my bookshelf since March of 2025 when I could have had the pleasure of enjoying it sooner!
