My 2014 Questions 1-5

MY 2014

1.What one event, big or small, are you going to tell your grandchildren about?
Two events occurred this year that made me “feel all the feels.” The first was my great uncle’s funeral, the second, my cousin’s wedding. Coincidentally, they happened within the same week. The experiences left me emotionally drained but also inspired.

I spent hours with my family after my Uncle Ed’s funeral. I don’t know what I expected to find in my aunt’s house when we all met up after the burial service, but what I found was a house full of smiles and love. My uncle’s life was so full and blessed. It made me so hopeful for my future and proud of my family as we sat and reminisced about a man so many loved.

A week later, my cousin married her best friend. Being a bridesmaid for a family member who is almost as close as a sister was an amazing experience.  The wedding contrasted from the funeral in many obvious ways, but it reminded me, once again, of the importance of family and friends. Two families came together to celebrate the start of a new home and the amount of joy on that gorgeous day sort of blew my mind.

2.If you had to describe your 2014 in 3 words, what would they be?
Different, familiar, and challenging.

3.What new things did you discover about yourself?
I am awesome at folding T-shirts, and I have a thing for cabin/lodge style. I can drink more alcohol than I could have ever fathomed. I am capable of making friends at work.

4.What single achievement are you most proud of?
Graduating from Gettysburg was easily the crowning achievement of 2014. I can’t say that I am one hundred percent sure that it was the best decision for me, but I am absolutely proud that I completed my degree, even if my career has yet to have benefited from this achievement.

5.What was the best news you received?
This year three of my cousins discovered that they are expecting babies.  It makes me so happy to see new life brought into the world, no matter the circumstances. I am thrilled for my cousins and look forward to seeing them parent their children. I also can’t wait to kiss those baby cheeks.
