So I’ve watched a butt ton of movies since I last posted a movie review. So I’m thinking “What the heck Hannah? How have you not wanted to write reviews for them?” I don’t know maybe because college is awfully busy? Anyway, there are three movies I want to mention today because I enjoyed them so much and because I watched them recently.
A friend and I watched The Cabin in the Woods and Fright Night as a double feature which was a fantastic decision. They were a great combo for October. First I’ll start with Cabin because that is the order we watched them in. Let me just say that this movie is very entertaining and suspenseful. I’m usually a baby when it comes to scary movies, but this wasn’t too bad as far as keeping me up at night. It was definitely the in the moment suspense that got me. Also, this movie is awesomely ironic and funny. The irony is subtle, and the humor is understated. I loved it though; I thought it was really smart.
Lastly, there is Perks! I’m not ashamed to say that I went and saw this movie by myself; I wanted to see it that badly. I read the book over the summer, and it was so inspiring and unique and Stephen Chbosky directed the movie and wrote the screenplay, so it was bound to be great. I was not wrong at all. Actually, I’m almost certain that the movie was better than the novel. There are a couple of reasons for this. One is the music. The music was an important part of the book, so as a movie adaptation there was already a lot of good material available. The second reason is that Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller, and Emma Watson killed it. The narration is still told through Charlie (like it was in the book), but there was so much more emotion in the acting than there could be in the writing. Critics have compared this movie to The Breakfast Club, and I think that’s totally appropriate because the film is life changing. At the end of the movie, I was sitting in my seat crying, thinking my life had changed. My mom once told me that she and her peers had felt changed after watching The Breakfast Club, and now I totally get it (by the way I love The Breakfast Club too).
So that’s a quick review of some movies I’ve watched lately. I hope you enjoyed them 🙂
