Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book was great! I love dystopian novels, and this one is unique and thoroughly thought out. The plot hooks you and makes you want to keep reading. The theme of beauty, I think, is a really strong one. Of course, it is predictable that Tally would learn the true meaning of beauty, but in that lies the joy of reading the story. I also like the balance between responsibility and free will. This issue is something I’m personally coming to think more about as I get older and face the issues of today’s society and economy. Anyway, the characters were really good. Tally and Shay were pretty strong characters. David was okay, too perfect, if you ask me, but aren’t most fictional males? I loved explaining the summary of this book to my mom. It is one of those stories you want to tell everyone about! I have to get to the library tomorrow to get #2 because this edition has the first chapter or so in the back of the book, and it is entirely too tempting!
